The Foundation for Social Development of Montes de María with a sense of corporate social responsibility , FUNDEMARIA, was created to channel the contributions of the company Extractora María La Baja S.A. and other allies in order to carry out programs and projects aimed at social, human, economic and environmental development in Montes de María.

How do we intervene?

Our intervention processes are oriented towards the integration and participation of all the actors that are part of the community, in order to create scenarios for the construction of social development, having the families of Montes de María as the central axis.

Education and productive development of communities

The projects led by the FUNDEMARIA Foundation are aimed at the training and productive development of the communities. We provide the conditions, opportunities and infrastructure to promote quality education. 

During all these years we have promised to continue working to improve the quality indices of education received by children and young people in the municipality of María La Baja.

  1. Educational support project with didactic material: 3000 school kits are delivered annually to be distributed in institutions in rural areas (villages).
  2. Virtual classrooms: classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment and training for the teaching staff.
  3. Infrastructure improvement and furniture to educational centers in the area.
  4. Program for the improvement of the quality of education:training for the updating and training of teachers at the María La Baja school.
  5. Young pride from La Palma: facilitate access to higher education for young people who occupy the best positions in the Tests Know of 11th grade in universities in the country, granting them aid or scholarships to enter the university. More than 40 young people have been selected for this program, of which more than 16 have already graduated from qualified Colombian universities.
  6. SENA alliances: in our facilities, technical studies and complementary courses of the SENA are developed, in which more than 200 students per year are attended. These are young people from the area, women heads of households and palm growers. 
  7. Creative robotics and electronics seedbed in alliance with the El Condor Foundation:educational innovation and good use of free time for young people from 6th to 11th grade of the educational institutions of the municipality of María la Baja.

Increased health care coverage

We coordinate efforts with governmental entities and the private sector to bring wellbeing to communities with low health service coverage.

  1. Health Posts:construction, reconstruction and provision of health posts in different communities in the area.
  2. Prevention and promotion: health brigades aimed at children and adults in María la Baja.
  3. Health supplies: supply of cleaning supplies to several health centers in the Auxiliaries zone.
  4. Hospital improvements: supplies and equipment for Hospital de María La Baja.
  5. Alliance with the Palmera Solidarity Fund::strengthening the network of health posts in the area of influence of the María la Baja Agroindustrial Oil Palm Project.
  6. Oral Health Brigades: alliance with the CLEO Corporation to provide promotion and prevention activities and basic care to populations made up of children and adults from rural areas with difficult access.

Cultural activities

We lead cultural, recreational and sports activities. In this way we strengthen the cultural manifestations of the Montes de María. 

  • Children's Day celebration.
  • National Youth Week.
  • Celebration of the farmer's day.
  • Support for special children (disabled, FIDES).
  • Construction, reconstruction and provision of sports facilities, chapels, parks, community kiosk.
  • Delivery of sports equipment, musical instruments and costumes.
  • Support for regional festivals (Bullerengue).
  • Actividades con los adultos mayores.
  • Sowing values: program to develop life skills and values of coexistence through the use of the soccer.
